Levels of Care for Addiction & Mental Health

Ambrosia Behavioral Health provides a full continuum of care for substance use and mental health conditions in Florida. Treatment is not one-size-fits-all — the right starting point depends on a clinical assessment of your needs, safety, and history. As you stabilize and progress, you can step down through less intensive levels while keeping the support you need. Our admissions team helps determine the most appropriate level of care for you or your loved one.

The continuum of care

Most people move through several levels of care during treatment and recovery — medical detox, residential/inpatient, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), outpatient, and aftercare. Each level offers a different intensity of structure and support. For a deeper explanation of how each level works, read our in-depth guide to levels of care.

Medical detox

Medically supervised detox manages withdrawal safely with 24/7 clinical monitoring. It is typically the first step for people with a physical dependence on alcohol or other drugs. Learn about our medical detox program.

Residential / inpatient

Residential treatment provides 24/7 care in a structured, supportive environment — ideal when someone needs to step away from daily triggers to focus fully on recovery. Ambrosia offers residential care for both addiction and mental health. Inpatient addiction treatment · Mental health residential treatment.

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

PHP delivers intensive, structured clinical care during the day while clients return home or to sober living in the evening. It works well as a step down from residential care or as an entry point for those who need significant support without overnight stays. Explore our PHP.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

IOP provides several hours of therapy on multiple days each week, allowing clients to maintain work, school, or family responsibilities while staying engaged in treatment. Explore our IOP.

Outpatient

Outpatient care offers continued therapy and support at a lower intensity, helping clients sustain their progress as they return to everyday life. Explore outpatient treatment.

Aftercare & alumni support

Recovery continues after primary treatment. Aftercare planning and alumni support help maintain the skills and connections built during treatment. Learn about aftercare.

Mental health treatment across every level

Mental health care at Ambrosia is a primary service — not only treatment for co-occurring conditions. We treat anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, and trauma across the same continuum of residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient care. Explore mental health treatment.

We also offer advanced, evidence-based psychiatric care, including interventional psychiatry, ketamine therapy, neurofeedback, qEEG brain mapping, TMS therapy, and a dedicated geriatric behavioral health program.

Specialized & co-occurring care

Many people experience both a mental health condition and a substance use disorder. Our dual diagnosis program treats both at the same time. For opioid and alcohol use disorders, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) can be integrated at the appropriate level of care.

What is the difference between PHP and IOP?

PHP (partial hospitalization) is more intensive — typically full days of structured clinical care several days a week — while IOP (intensive outpatient) involves fewer hours per week, leaving more time for work, school, or family.
