Drexel University College of Nursing and Health can trace its roots to Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry founded in 1891, by Anthony J. Drexel (founder of Drexel, Morgan & Co, later known as J.P. Morgan & Co. in 1871).  Since 2002, the College has embraced the integration of learning and work through work cooperative education, research and deep civic engagement.  Drexel University College of Nursing and Health has been training aspiring medical professionals for over a century. Part of the university’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing curriculum is full-time employment in the form of a co-op. Students gain clinical experience while earning credits towards their degree. According to Drexel.edu, 38% of nursing students go on to work full time for a previous co-op employer.  2019 marks the 100th anniversary of Drexel’s co-op work program.  Drexel graduates enter the workforce with direct experience treating patients, making them especially valuable to notable healthcare organizations in the Philadelphia area and beyond.

Ambrosia’s CEO and founder Jerry Haffey is a Philadelphia-native and Drexel university nursing alumni. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2000 before founding Ambrosia Treatment Center’s first drug & alcohol rehab in Florida in 2007. Since that time, the company has grown into multiple-state facilities that treat struggling addicts and alcoholics from PA to across the nation. In 2019, Jerry was awarded the Alumni Entrepreneur Award from Drexel university for his work to stop the growing problem of addiction.

Earlier this year, the company opened the doors of its newest drug rehab center in Philadelphia, PA.  Addiction has become a massive issue for the city, and fatal opioid overdoses are particularly problematic.  Ambrosia is set to hire nursing and support staff through Drexel’s alumni network while participating in Drexel’s co-op job program.

The partnership with Drexel University is a unique opportunity to measure addiction treatment outcomes and at the same time, bolster future substance abuse healthcare professionals.

“Having been through the program, I’m very excited to work with Drexel. They fit right in with our mission to bring quality addiction treatment to Philadelphia and the surrounding counties,” says Haffey.

In the coming months, Ambrosia Treatment Center looks forward to working with Drexel’s nursing program to conduct an evidence-based study focusing on addiction and treatment outcomes.

In addition to their drug rehab in PA, Ambrosia operates addiction facilities in Florida, including:
